OdoovsCharisma

Odoo or Charisma ERP

An international ERP against one built in Romania: where each wins, and what changing costs you.

Charisma is a Romanian ERP with a long presence in the local market, used mainly in retail, distribution and financial services. Fiscal localisation is its strength: it was built for the legislation here and follows it closely.

Odoo comes from the opposite direction: an international, modular platform with Romanian localisation added through configuration and dedicated modules, but with a far wider ecosystem of functionality and integrations.

Companies who ask us about this comparison usually have a working Charisma in which every change takes time and money, or which does not cover online commerce and mobility.

In short

If your dominant requirement is Romanian fiscal compliance and you need no extensions, Charisma does the job and there is no reason to change. If you need online commerce, field applications, fast customisation or a predictable cost of growth, Odoo has a clear advantage.

Choose Odoo if

  • You need an integrated online shop, point of sale or mobile applications.
  • You want to be able to change supplier without changing system.
  • Your processes change often and you want to follow them through configuration.
  • You have subsidiaries or customers outside Romania and need several localisations.

Stay on Charisma if

  • Romanian fiscal compliance is the dominant requirement and the current system covers it.
  • You have local-market-specific processes already implemented and working.
  • You need no online commerce or mobility in the coming years.
  • The cost of migrating is not justified by the functional gain.

What matters in Romania

Charisma has the advantage of being built for Romanian legislation, with fiscal updates coming from the vendor. In Odoo, e-Factura, e-Transport and the SAF-T structure are configured at implementation and maintained by your partner — which is why "who maintains the localisation, and how quickly" must be asked explicitly before signing, whichever platform you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth migrating from Charisma to Odoo?+

It is worth it when the limitation is real and you feel it monthly: you cannot open an online channel, you cannot give the field team an application, or every process change becomes a separately billed project. It is not worth it if the current system covers what you do and the only complaint is the interface.

How long does a migration from Charisma take?+

Four to seven months for a 15–50 user company, including analysis, configuration, data migration, training and stabilisation. Data migration is the unpredictable part and depends on how clean the current system is.

Does Odoo meet ANAF requirements as well?+

Yes, when the localisation is configured and maintained properly: e-Factura submitted automatically to SPV with responses recorded, e-Transport at dispatch, and a chart of accounts prepared for SAF-T. The difference is not capability but who answers for updates — the vendor with Charisma, the implementation partner with Odoo.

Not sure which one fits?

The selection stage takes two to three weeks and delivers a written recommendation with a five-year cost for each option. We implement both platforms, so we have no commercial reason to push you either way.
